Mother, Father, Hear Me
I.
Mother, hear me.
I watched you
diminish
into nothing but
light.
But you were brought
into the dark
without a light to hold.
Trapped in His cage,
singing like an angel
crying "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah,"
I will find you.
II.
Father, help me.
She needs salvation,
and I need you.
She gave up normalcy,
for me
and for you,
and sacrificed nothing
but everything she had
just for you.
So where are you?
III.
This water is pushing me down,
spiraling into a whirlpool
full of chaos and mayhem.
I close my eyes; please,
let this come quick.
Let me see her again.
Let my father know
that I died a hero,
I died trying to do
what was right
and not
wrong.
IV.
I'm floating in the middle between life and death
and my body feels numb, strange, and new.
I hear a voice.
Speak.
(I will breathe for you;
let the water guide me.)
(Why am I still alive?
Why does the water
cling?)
Mother, Father, hear me.
(Can you?)
V.
Father, I am here.
Mother, hear me.
I watched you
diminish
into nothing but
light.
But you were brought
into the dark
without a light to hold.
Trapped in His cage,
singing like an angel
crying "Glory, Glory, Hallelujah,"
I will find you.

Endnote: For my final genre, while I have delved more on The Lightning Thief and The Sea of Monsters for the genres, I feel as though a poem about Percy's feelings about his mother and father would encompass the character himself. This poem is based on the events in The Lightning Thief, however, but I learned more about the character as the series continued throughout the other books, and younger readers may feel for the character himself when they are reading the story along with the poem. The only source I used was the Olympian series to try and encompass different aspects of Percy throughout the series into the poem, and he is the type of character to be as brave as he can, even though he is afraid to do something when he has so much to worry with his parents. He grows into a spectacular character that young readers can relate to, about finding that inner hero in them when they would not know about it without becoming brave about something.
